IAP2's Fundamentals of Public Participation 

-For Young Professionals-

IAP2's Fundamentals of Public Participation (P2) is a prerequisite course that explores the underlying models and frameworks for meaningful public engagement as defined by the IAP2 community. This course explores best practices,  and how to apply the models and frameworks to your P2 practice.  

To support young professionals in their professional development, the cost of the course has been reduced. This means that if you are under the age of 35 or are new to the field, and are signed up as an IAP2 Young Professional, you will receive a $75.00 discount for the course. You do not need to be a member of IAP2 to sign up as an IAP2 Young Professional or to receive the discount. We, of course, welcome all learners, while creating a space for young professionals to flourish!

This course consists of 2-4 hour live sessions and IAP2 and is the prerequisite course for any additional IAP2 courses (including Designing Public Participation and Applying Methods).

Course Objectives

• Define Public Participation (P2)  and related terms (what makes P2 unique)
• Identify what makes P2 meaningful and reflect on the benefits, risks and myths of P2
  
• Identify the role of values in P2 and leadership attributes for meaningful P2 engagement
  
• Reflect on and apply principles of diversity, equity and inclusion
• Explore the roles and impacts of power and influence
• Apply the IAP2 Spectrum of Engagement to P2 situations and practice
• Explore the Practice Framework as a tool for effective planning and processes
